Diane Chambers started working at Cheers in 1982 as a college graduate who works as a cocktail waitress. She attended the private Bennington College and studied for her graduate degree at Boston University. Diane suffers occasional facial tics and uses long-winded, poetic speeches and obscure words that often elude her peers. 

Diane's unwitting Maid of Honor, Carla Tortelli, hopes that after the wedding, the bar will finally be rid of her.

Frasier Winslow Crane, a Seattle native and an alumnus of Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, and Oxford University, first met Diane in 1984, when she was undergoing... treatment.  

Frasier had been living in Boston at the time, while Diane was working at Cheers.

Martin Crane, Frasier's father is quoted "hopefully he'll finally get off his big bazoo and settle down already."
